Maldegem -Adegem

Maldegem and Steam centrum are installing velo rails on 2 level crossings to increase safety for cyclists.

Last year there were several accidents with cyclists on two level crossings. Cyclists have to drive more slowly on the cycle path, but cyclists in groups are allowed on the road. And that's where the accidents happened. The velo rail makes the groove narrower and therefore less chance of falling.
In March last year, a cyclist suffered a serious head injury at a level crossing, which means that he is now unable to work. Mayor Bart Van Hulle: "The level crossings are in order legally and technically, but after the serious bicycle accident last year, we decided to make the investment of a total of 200,000 euros. The groove of the railway is quite wide. And because that is on the side, it becomes wider, which is dangerous for cyclists. To avoid more accidents, we make sure that we narrow the groove with the velo rail."

I hope you like it.
