‘Heverlee - Park Abbey’
Today I present you a second beautiful historic sight in close proximity to Leuven:
Park Abbey, a well preserved 12th-century heritage site.
Its official name is Conventus Sanctae Mariae de Parco. But everyone knows it as Park Abbey (Dutch: Abdij van Park).
The Premonstratensians have inhabited the site since 1129. A small community of Premonstratensians continues to live according to the rules of monastic life and perform pastoral work.
The abbey site kept its authenticity throughout the centuries. The interior of the monastery and the look of the buildings are practically intact. The buildings, including the farm, watermill, church and gatehouses, have remained practically unchanged since the 17th century.
Its location is Heverlee, a sub-municipality of Leuven, the provincial capital of Flemish Brabant.
It is surrounded by greenery, ponds and pastures and within walking distance of the centre of Leuven.

Interesting reading, Paul, a place with history going back to the 12th century.
Well placed the tower between the gate massive poles, good DOF and fine clear objects. The photographer on side was a nice added bonus to the scene.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Hi Paul, beautiful report on this abbey and its park, a very rich post with 4 different perspectives showing the rich entrance but also a complete view and other WS with details on the church, I really like these places, between history and religion, and whose you always experience a magical atmosphere of peace. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Paul,
You were obviously not the only one who decided this was a great day for taking photos of these interesting buildings. The beautiful light enhanced the colours of the buildings, whereas the photographer and the cobbled street going through the gate created nice depth. The WS photos are also well taken. I have the Catholic cathedral a few minutes away from where I live, but it's not particularly interesting architecturally, contrary to these, so it hasn't gone into my gallery.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Paul,
Vous avez bien capturé l'action du photographe. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de l'abbaye Sainte-Marie de Parco. La lumière fait ressortir la beauté des couleurs. Bonne journée.

Hi Paul,
Beautiful architecture, stylish and colorful and captured on a wonderful weather day. We see several views from this less known but so attractive spot.
I see you have met someone for TrekEarth meeting with the tripod!
My hands are shaking so badly now that I need a tripod for any sort of photos...
Excellent photos,
M

Goedemiddag Paul,
Schitterend foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John

Hello Paul,
This sounds and appears like a very interesting place to visit, unchanged over centuries!
Your series of photographs are very useful in revealing the site.
I particularly like this main shot because of wonderful aspect, where the cobbled avenue guides us so effectively towards the repeating features.
Not only that, you have added another photographer, who brings the whole scene to life.
I have no doubt that your photograph will be better than his!!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hallo Paul,

Hi Paul
A good photo of this old complex and Like you I prefer to avoid tripods even though a do have a couple. Modern cameras can handle quiet slow shutter speeds.
cheers

Hi Paul
Well composed using the rule of three with the 2 grey gate towers matching the style of the bg grey tower. The inclusion of the photographer was a bonus. Tfs!

Hi Paul,
Here we are!!!hahaha I see myself in this shot. I take my tripod always in my travels but I don't always use it. When I don't have the tripod I try to lean against a pole or column to ensure a good photo. Very nice shot here my friend. Very atractive entrance.
Best regards

Hello Paul,
Nice, symmetric photo (except for the photographer). I wonder why he was using a tripod, telephoto perhaps?

Hello Paul,
It is an excellently composed photograph in itself. The photographer is the cherry on the cake. This photo made me remember that once back in 2013 in Scotland I was taking a photo with and used a tripod. An old man stopped ans told to me that he was pleased to see someone that uses a tripod nowadays.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Paul.
A sensational vertical composition, with the imposing entrance giving perspective towards the splendid tower and entrance to the abbey, a monument of which I have not seen any photos before.
Very pleasant coloring, which together with the good sharpness and optimal lighting, gives great quality to the image.
Well done. I like very much
You have a good day.
Very best regards
Luis.
