Not far from this place I was born.
What you now see is one of the two canals, with a central dike of about 75 meters.
My photo was taken with a view of the Schipdonk Canal, across the dike where the sheep now graze, the Leopold Canal is located, they do not connect anywhere, have a completely different function.
There was heavy fighting here during WW II, with many deaths, on both sides. German - Canadians.
When we were children, we always played along these canals, but where the sheep now graze, we could not yet get, from the mines which were still hidden (1950).
Then the demining service of the army cleared all the mines, when we were in primary school, we heard the explosions.
A beautiful time, but too long ago, now I'm old, and can only think about it.

Interesantan i lep pogled, lep trenutak, dobar tekst ...
Lep refleks na vodi, ovce i drvece na obali, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim tenutkom.
Dobar rad sa lepom fotografijom u radionici.

Hallo John,
The canal lined by beautifully reflected trees is one of your most common photographic themes, but you always find some details that make each such photo special. This time it's the sheep grazing on the rather dry yellow grass along the water. They create a pleasant atmosphere and also give us a number of nice focal-points.

Hallo John,
De schaapjes op de berm zijn een geweldig element van deze prachtige kanaalfoto.
Van bij je geboorte kon je al beginnen met schaapjes tellen :)
Zeer heldere weerspiegelingen in het water.
Mooie combinatie van de door de zon belichte boomstammen en de berm met het blauw van de lucht.
De licht diagonale lijnen van kanaal en oevers zorgen voor een aantrekkelijk beeld.

Beautiful light. I admire here again the incredible clarity and sharpness of your photo. I like subtly darker sky as a background for the well lit foreground. The canal provides a chance for the attractive reflection while the sheep bring so much life to the scene.

Hello John, Very nice picture, especially when seen in the larger format, a nice row of the leafless trees, nicely reflected in the canal. Your note is a bit melancholic. It is so when we think about our childhood times while we are old.

Heerlijk winterlicht en mooie kleuren, John. De reflectie is top. De schaapjes op het droge zijn maar details, maar ze gaven je een mooie titel voor de foto. Top!

Dag John,
Dit soort foto’s van bomen en een weg langs een lange rechte vaart doen mij altijd denken aan de Haarlemmermeer. De bomen staan daar meestal iets verder uit elkaar maar de rest is nagenoeg hetzelfde. Knap hoe jij altijd weer de juiste sfeerrijke compositie weet te vinden.

Hello John,

I'm sorry that I haven't been around as often as normal to keep up with the splendid pre-Christmas photographs but I have been extremely busy!

I like this enormously.
It reveals the character of your country and is beautifully composed to show it off at its best!
The f/g is anchored by the spiky, winter bushes, which give way to a spectacular line of winter trees, standing erect, like soldiers on parade. These trees are further revealed as reflections in the well placed canal.
The soft, winter light works perfectly.

Hello John,
The returning pattern over the picture space, with the many trees planted along the canal, marvelously on the outcome in perfect view across.
side light brought a reflection over water, altogether a great composed photo.
