Photographer's Note

This is the Old(New)Synagogue (Altneuschul) of Josefov or the Jewish Quarter in Prague.

Jews have been in Prague for over a thousand years; after a pogrom in ~1090 AD by the crusaders in which thousands were slaughtered the Jews moved into a walled area called Josefov. This is the oldest active synagogue in Europe. On the right in the distance is the 'Hebrew Clock' tower.

It began to rain lightly when I roamed the old Jewish Quarter in Prague, stocky buildings with greenish copper rust on tops, dark light from a straggling open window upstairs here and there, desolate streets with morbid tram lines spread out over the gray cobblestones, Kafka came to my mind.
