Photographer's Note
The biggest water reservoir on the Dyje river. Dam wall 292 m long and 60 m wide was built according to a Swiss project from 1930 to 1933. On the right side of the dam wall there is a power station with three still operating turbines. It used to be the biggest valley dam in the Czech Republic with length of lake over 30 km it reaches as far as to Podhradí nad Dyjí.
Nowadays Vranov dam serves most of all as a favourite recreational centre (centres at Vranov nad Dyjí – Vranov Beach, Lančov Bay, Chvalatice, Bítov - Kopaninky, Bítov - Horka, Chmelnice, Farářka, Podhradí nad Dyjí). Valley dam traditionally called “Moravian Adriatic” belongs to the warmest dams in the country.
