Photographer's Note
This little girl was shuffling home in the rain. I find the perspective and the tiny figure quite poetic.
Worked quite a bit on it: Cropping, levels, curves, sharpening. I played a lot with the colour channels to get an interesting BW I do not know the general principles for this (are there any?) so I just tried my way.

J'aime cette photo... mais j'aurais coupé le ciel ou la partie du haut du tiers.

I like the perspective, the road leading away, the high trees and the small figure of the girl. The shine off the wet road and the reflections are great as well. Good picture.

Yes, you can learn to follow the rules and later to break them again, or alternatively 'follow and transmit your feeling'. The rules i can think of that can apply here: Because we read from left to right, we view pictures this way too. A road going from down left to upper right feels better than right-under upperleft. You took the road and girl in a straight line - this is generally less dynamic ( and therefore more 'dull'). Emphasis on 'smallness'of the girl: get a high(er) viewpoint. With semi silhouette shots: get the contour straight ( good job here, the reflection in the road shows her legs without overlap.) Avoid symetry, crop away the left or right tree just to see the effect this has on the composition. The Red channel gives the most interesting B&W pics, way better than grayscale.

William gave you an excellent critique here, I must agree with what he says for the most part. I agree especially about the advantage of the road going more horizontally. I also think you may have adjusted the contrasta little too high, as there appears to be a bit of halo around the girl(this could be from sharpening too). I will upload an alternate way to change to monotone(not truly B&W, but a method I like). Still a very effective shot.

I like the mood in this picture. Because of the more luminous halo around the girls head it could be called "an angel walking". Willem's critique and Darren's workshop are also quite neat.

That´s a good picture, Mikkel. You do not explore the diagonals, but use an interesting 90 degree angle (the road left). Sort of geometric. I am a little suspicious talking about cropping, since I prefer not to do it. You´ve got a good view and registered it. That is the point.

This is a great composition Mikkel. I like the the girl walking in the rain. The road leading off into the distance through the collonade of trees. Very well done.
