Photographer's Note
- and experimenting more than ever :O)
I find it so difficult to convert to B/W and would love to learn how to do it correct - so if anybody could tell me I will be happy.
This is the result after having pressed half the buttons in Photoshop.
I have uploaded the colour version in WS.

Happy birthday then Tina! :) And it's always good to experiment... Your b&w looks fine to me. The only thing I can point is the clean gray background. I don't like them too much... Probably I would push the constrast a bit to get rid of it. By I am also no b&w expert. Some say that Russell Brown's technique is one of the best available. Check it here under the section "Black and White Variations". In terms of composition I do like your picture very much. Thanks

Nothing wrong with you B&W. I like it. The only thing I would do different was not to crop the guy’s foot. But, anyway, it is a detail and a personal idea. Well done.

Hi Tina
I like the B&W, it seems as your keybord manuevre(?) worked just fine;0) The light is great and your model really has an attitude I like.
Congrats

Hej Tina
Et forsinket til lykke med fødselsdagen - jeg var ikke opmærksom på at du var så ung på TE :D
Det en flot positur du har fanget her - både B&W og farveversionen fungere fint.
Venlig hilsen
Jeppe

Hello Tina.
I'm sorry, a bit late. Anyway, happy year anniversary. This B&W shot looks very good to me. Maybe a bit to even a tone in the sky, but that seems to be what you were working with. The perspective is nice and good job keeping the glare down in what seems like bright light.
Regards,
Chris.
:) tomorrow.

Hello Tina. Happy anniversary. I couldn't help but notice this one, because I see quite a few similarities to a shot I just uploaded. I like how you have used the bike to create more depth in the photo and I think the positioning of all the elements in the shot are well done. A nice bonus for me is the diagonal line of the retaining wall. Your b&w conversion looks pretty good to me, although maybe you could brighten up the darker areas just a little?
As for tips on b&w conversions, I am no expert. I did find one quick and easy method the other day that I liked. Assuming you are using PS (you say so in your note, so I guess it isn't an assumption), add a hue/saturation adjustment layer on top the image, then change that layer mode to color. Next, add another hue/saturation layer and move the saturation slider down to zero. Next, open up the first hue/saturation layer and move the hue slider around until you find a tone you like. You can also mess with saturation and lightness on that layer too. Works well and can be done very quickly. I would also have a look at the adobe studio exchange site (don't remember the addy, maybe google it), and atncentral and try out some of the many conversion actions that are available.

Hi Tina
"Happy birthday" 2 U 4 ur first year here.
Well, the photo is pretty good and the converted version just fine. If you want to play a bit more, try to correct the shadows and highlights manually as well the contrast.
And if you want to go deeper, convert the photo into a dualtone photo (first of all into greyscale and then into dualtone), there you can choose the second colour and play a bit with the mood.
Hope this is helpful.
All the best
athanasios
P.S: I did a small ws with dualtone, extra not really grey to let you understand the possibilities
