Photographer's Note

Spring is advancing slowly here in Finland. We already had sunny days with temperatures approaching 10 °C at the last half of March, but April has started cold with even some new snow at times.

This is a shot I took during my visit four days ago to Haukilahti beach in Espoo, the place, from where I have shown several photos earlier.

There was still plenty of ice close the shore, but the thick blue line at the horizon is an open sea further away. The new previous night snow had painted the ice shining white. Snow had already melted on the rock and stones during the day. There were nobody on the ice any more, because it was very thin. The fresh snow gives a false impression that it would still carry weight.

In spite of the still ice covered sea and the snow in the woods, there was a definite feeling of approaching spring in the air, much due the light, which we have lots more now compared to the dark winter months.

Happy Easter!
