Photographer's Note
Sunday is not a market day in Helsinki, and after a night with snowfall the Market Square looked particularly empty. Title not only descripes colours of winter but also melancholy feeling there. Map view shows how busy it is on summer days. Please, have a look at the larger version.
A Whiter Shade of Pale was the debut single of Procol Harum, 1967.

Hallo Kari!
Truly a somehow melancholic atmosphere ... especially caused by the absence of colours. Nevertheless an impressive winter photo which transmits cold very well to the viewer. Thank you for the interesting large version!
Greetings from also cold and grey Germany!

Hi Kari.
It's amazing for Spaniards the view of a city with that quantity of snow so...it's lovely for us of course.
Excellent pic!

Hi Kari,
Wow, nice panorama, great detail to explore in the large version. I love doing panoramas myself. The small version attracts you with the title and the promise of that detail in the whiteness of the snow. We woke up to 4 inches of the white stuff here in St. Louis, but it will be dirty slush and gone in a few days. It doesn't look like it thaws until spring in Helsinki!
Have a warm day if possible!

Hei Kari,
Indeed, I hardly ever have seen the Market Square this empty. A good panorama from a view I have seen so many times. It was not very cold that day, but so typically overcast. The large version is great for details.

Hi Kari,
I especially like the bow of the ship and the patterns of light in the clouds. In the large version, the crisp detail of the snow stands out.
Snow sure does make a difference, everything looks so clean and uncrowded, the map does show a different picture. Great title. Have you read, 'Miss Smilla's Sense of Snow?' I liked the book although I didn't see the movie.
