Photographer's Note
I had the fine pleasure of spending the day with TE friend: "didi" in the interesting Cathar country, when in France this summer. We visited several interesting places of this lost people and land. We also found time for a rural lunch under our joint session. Meet 'didi' in full swing - workshop
Presenting today the first photo of the old Cathar Castle Peyrepertuse high up on the summit of this mountain. Of its history:
Peyrepertuse is a ruined fortress located high in the French Pyrénées in the Aude department, and has been associated with the Counts of Narbonne and Barcelona. During the Albigensian Crusade it served as a Cathar haven and stonghold, but was handed over to French forces without a battle in 1240. Known as one of the "five sons of Carcasonne" - several castles along the border between France and Spain - the French fortified the castle in 1242 to protect the border.
Essential for this castle also the faith of the Cathars:
Catharism was a religious movement with Gnostic elements that originated around the middle of the 10th century, branded by the contemporary Roman Catholic Church as heretical. It existed throughout much of Western Europe, but its home was in Languedoc and surrounding areas in southern France.
This presentation made of 2 photos vertically stitched.

Hi jack. And thanks for this beautiful shot and its very interesting informative note about Peyrepertuse and the catharism in Medieval Southern France. The crop is very well chosen and the composition with the castle and the mountain that contrast with the pure blue sky is nice too !

Hei Jack,
Beyond the endless discussions that seem to never end, your post illustrates perfectly one of the best values we get from TE, meeting people who share our pation and make friends. Often the remain virtual due to the distance, sometimes the opportunity happens to meet them personally and deepen the relationship. I do not understand why this wonderful side of TE should be a shame !!!
OK this was off topic, now I believe I have to write something about your photo ;-))
Well, what I like here is the bottom up PoV that shows well the spectacular overlooking position of this castle, you added excellent colors and stitching, on such a view I'd be tempted by a vertical framing, but you were right to shoot too, as only one photo wouldn't have allowed to show all the elements on top of the cliff.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Jack,
Very interesting note, your stitched again perfect, the colours lovely and soft, good contrast between the green vegetation and the colour of the rocks.
Have a nice day.

Bonjour Jack
J'ai été très heureux de ce meeting mémorable. Merci beaucoup.
La composition est très appréciable, je n'ai pas pensé de mon côté à faire un stitch de plusieurs photos.
L'assemblage est parfait et je note aucun défaut à ce sujet.
Hello Jack
I was very happy of this memorable meeting. Thank you very much.
The composition is very appreciable, I did not think on my side of making a stitch of several photographs. The assembly is perfect and I note no defect on this subject.
Well done.

Both in the same neck of the woods today Jack (at least photographically). Fine PoV for this, but I wonder about the crop for this one, maybe just a little too much plain blue, though it does form a fine backdrop for the castle.

Bonjour Jack,

Again a nice work with the vertical stitching, Jack. Good to see that the meeting with Didi took place and thanks for adding the WS where indeed we can see that he brought all the perfect gear. The half-and-half division of the square frame between sky and rock formation is a good compositional choice to show the way in which the rock face and the castle ruins almost blend into each other. It looks like it could be a tad sharper but I like it. Judging from your recent postings I take it you are quite happy with the 18-70 lens on the D70.
