Photographer's Note
Locals sitting at the top of the waterfall by the ancient hamlet of Saint-Maurice-Navacelles, Cirque de Navacelles, Gorges de la Vis, Hérault, Occitanie, France. They were watching people swimming in the plunge-pool at the bottom of the cascade.
A couple of days ago I commented to Gert that my favourite images were often black and white. Then I realised that I hadn't posted any monochromes for quite a while (to be honest, I haven't posted anything much in quite a while!) So here's an attempt to rectify the situation. Taken quite some time ago, when my trusty EOS 5D, that I'm still using, must have been relatively new: I'm now trying to screw my courage to the sticking place, and convince myself that it's worth investing in an EOS R6 mirrorless. Come on, Santa!
In the workshop, you can see a panoramic of the little village in the gorge, taken from the top. The drive down the cliff-face was interesting...

Hello Will,
We can't see from this side what's happening among those persons, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of conversation going on. Most members would probably have chosen the WS as the main upload, but even though it shows quite a hair raising view down the steep cliff I think this photo is more fun to watch. It teases my imagination more.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Will, this shot is one where you have us wondering precisely what are the people are looking at, a real teaser.
I like the monochrome, it is an excellent sharp shot, and the textures and tones are lovely.
Looking at the road down into the bottom of the gorge it looks as if it could be quite a challenge. I hope that you had decent brakes!
The W/s shot is very interesting. Although we used to have lots of holidays in France, I was unaware of this gorge. Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Will,
Somehow, based on the elaboration I thought it was a much older, analog photograph. I like the composition and the tonal range of the grays. Also, the calm atmosphere is very appealing.
Regarding the mirrorless: if its not a rangefinder that will be your first step towards non-alcoholic beer and other nasty-things! ;-)
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Will
An excellent B&W photo. I keep trying to remember to post more B&W photos as well (like my recent Boston ones). Keep them coming.

Hello Will,
You are right, we haven't seen many photographs from you recently, in b&w or colour!
I really like the reflections in your photograph, they give immediate interest to the f/g, which could have looked empty. The stony edge creates a very good separation line, leading to the seated figures, all sharply exposed.
The photograph creates a good narrative; who are they, why are they seated there, what are they watching or what are they planning? The options are endless!
For me, this is more engaging photograph than the w/s.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Will, From this picture, we can't guess what the people are looking at. Charming black and white photo from your rather deep archive.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Will
Indeed, we haven't had a pleasure to admire much of your black and white or otherwise work recently... so nice to see you back, at least for some time. And nice to know you are well and safe.
What I really like about this image is that, even though it's black and white, we can immediately see that it was taken in the summer. And I don't just mean the way people are dressed but there is something about the light, it's bright and very well captured, with perfect exposure.
Loved the WS shot. Really makes me want to be here.
Best wishes
Kasia
