Theme: (Trip) Charms of Europe (II) - medieval fortified village

…I continue my visits to Nice…

The narrow cobblestone pathways throughout the hillside walled town of St. Paul de Vence are lined with shops selling everything from artwork to herb-infused oils. A very pretty place a short ride from Nice. Don't miss the Maeght Foundation (modern art and sculpture) a short walk from the town if you're there.

A narrow and picturesque street of Saint Paul-de-Vence. It's a great pleasure to walk and lose yourself in a maze of charming streets of flowers, arches, little shady squares, porches, water fountains, beautiful windows, numerous art shops, and quaint restaurants.

Saint Paul-de-Vence is a beautiful medieval fortified village perched on a narrow spur between two deep valleys. The beauty of the surrounding area, quality of life and exceptional light has inspired numerous famous artists, painters, writers and poets, some of whom took up residence in the village.

Olá Filipe,

tudo bem?

vejo que andaste a passear-te pela famosa Cote D'Azur e a conhecer um pouco do charme das suas belas vilas medievais.
Esta tua vista ruela acima é muito interessante e está carregada de pequenos detalhes interessantes que nos prendem o olhar aqui e ali.

Agora, este tratamento, na minha modesta opinião é demasiado agressivo pois se por um lado revela efectvamente muito detalhe, por outro cria aqui uma atmosfera demasiado forçada o que é pena pois em termos de composiçã0 a foto está bem engraçada.

Espero que não me leves a mal esta sinceridade toda, mas (e não sei se é HDR ou excesso de dodge) no caso do HDR ou é uma coisa muito bem doseada ou então (e aqui é muito pessoal) para mim já não resulta, aliás tenho para aqui o photomatix e outros e por muito que tente e dê voltas nunca fico satisfeito e lá volto eu ao photoshop para trabalhar as fotos, dá mais trabalho mas sem duvida que resulta melhor IMO.

Hi Filipe, A strong pp but nice effect on this postcard. Such narrow streets in old cities are very charming. All made of stone - wall, streets. beautiful place, no wonder it attracts artists. You were lucky that someone in red shirt was just passing by - it is an eyecatcher.

This is magnificent rendition of a narrow street scene in Saint Paul de Vence, and view I remember. It was wise to include the shop with the paintings, creating a virtual 'chop mark' as in Asian art. The colors and textures are on display,

Hi Filipe,
I like the framing of this shot and the way the stairs leads the eyes upwards. Your note is very interesting and informative. Your photo complements this description because it gives me an idea of why these artists and poets chose this as their destination. The age of the buildings is visible in the detail of the stones, and I like that you have included a piece of artwork in the righthand corner. Maybe this will inspire more artists to visit this place :)

A wise composition which exploits well the perspective of these stairs and the chromatic contrast of the green leaves on the wall and a calibrated HDR which highlights the colours, the sharpness and the textures.

Un très bel ensemble de photos, les WS en plus, sur ce superbe village qui inspire tant d'artistes de toutes les disciplines. Traitement de l'image qui met bien en valeur cette agréable ruelle, les couleurs très contrastées sont agréables. J'ai trouvé un petit film film qui te rappellera des souvenirs sur cette jolie cité. you have got a nice frame with the stairs and the stony texture of the wall. Strong PP work create a lighted atmosphere here. I personally prefer some dark tone in such shots, but anyway it is nice to see with the person in red. Tfs.

esta composición urbana, basada en la arquitectura tradicional en piedra de este pueblo, sus tiendas, las personas en la calle y el toque verde de las plantas, es muy eficaz y capta toda la belleza estética del lugar, mediante un encuadre adecuado.
Es un bonito trabajo, con mucha fuerza gráfica.

Wonderful composition with a beautiful harmony in the various elements that adorn streets and facades, the prospect of stepped street gives good depth.
I love the bright color, but natural, the luminosity is also very well balanced by the sharpness to admire the many details contained in the composition.
