Photographer's Note

Here you can see the Milky Way over the Col de l'Échelle (France).
I think this is a valley showcasing a strong pictorial mood.

This is a single shot, 38 sec exposure, 6400 ISO, f/4 (camera Canon 5D Mark II), taken at 1 am on May 27th. One hour and half before moonrise (scheduled for 2:27 am).
A very dark sky, due to the absence of the Moon, which allows viewing the Milky Way, plus some light pollution coming from the valley below, which helps a lot adding some nuances to the clouds and clarity to the mountains ridges.

I am constantly trying to learn all complex aspects of night photography.
Since a long time I love being on the mountains at night, it's a face to face with the great unsolved mysteries of all time.
Actually, for me, night photography is a gateway into the mystery.
Although development of recent new technologies is allowing us to deal "fairly easily" with some shots (once unthinkable), the refinement of the intuition towards night faintest sources of light (barely visible to the human eye), the ability to choose, properly compose and focus, a subject in pitch black conditions (without mentioning weather conditions...), are all aspects requiring a huge experience, knowledge, and dedication.
In few words it's a never stop learning!
