‘Lille – A glimpse of the Grand’Place’

From a side street we catch a glimpse of the Grand’Place in Lille.
The official name of the square is ‘la Place du Général de Gaulle’ but everyone knows it as ‘la Grande Place’.

Among others the building of the old Stock Exchange (la Vieille Bourse) is located here. See my previous picture.

On the picture here you notice the building ‘La Voix du Nord’. At its top, you find the statue of the Three Graces in gilded bronze. They symbolize the three former provinces of the region: Flanders, Artois and Hainaut.

The big wheel operates majestically every year from late November to the end of January. From in one of the 36 gondolas you get great views of the center of the city.
If you like a better view of this square please look at the picture in the workshop.
