Sonneur, a photo from Bretagne, Ouest

Photographer's Note

Quelques anciens du Bagad de Lann Bihoué participaient à l'animation musicale lors des cérémonies du 15 août à la chapelle du Croisty en Arzon .
Pendant la messe , ce sonneur de biniou braz (grande cornemuse) s'était mis un peu à l'écart pour régler son instrument .
En arrière plan , les bateaux au mouillage attendant la bénédiction en l'honneur des marins péris en mer .

Le biniou braz , ou grande cornemuse est apparu en Bretagne à la fin du 19ème siècle , importé d'Ecosse , quand se développèrent les bagadous , formations musicales inspirées des pipe-bands écossais . L'instrument traditionnel breton est plus petit , le biniou kozh , joué en couple avec la bombarde .

un portrait bien tiré, ce joueur de cornemuse a fière allure devant la mer et les bateaux.
J'aurais préféré plus de flou sur l'arrière plan

Bonjour Denis,

Dans ce cas je peux affirmer que j'aime beaucoup plus les voir que les entendre et il prend beaucoup d'espace dans le cadre. Il prend son travail au sérieux. Belle journée pour prendre la mer.

Bonjour Denis,

You have written a very interesting note here. I didn't realise that these bagpipes had come across to Bretagne from Scotland. But bagpipes didn't originate in Scotland at all - I believe that they were first invented in Turkey or the Middle East!

This is a very fine portrait of this bagpipe player - he looks to me more like a Scotsman than a Frenchman! - and he stands out beautifully in his bright red jacket against the blue of the sea and the sky. The scattered boats add background interest and, of course, are in keeping with the blessing to which you refer.

Gorgeous light and colours, fine composition and exquisite details and sharpness throughout.

I love the sound of Bagpipes when they are played well, we have good detail there just look at those puffed out cheeks! and there's a wonderful background linking to this fine image, Superb contrast, clarity and overall colour scheme. Fine shot, TFS.

Hi Denis,
Intriguing picture. One loves the bagpipes or one hates them. I wondered how it is with the people on the background. It seems the like the scene but have enough distance to her the bagpipe not to loud.
But I think the man in red loves to play here.

A picture with many interesting details. The bagpiper, in eye-catching red, looks very good against the blue sea and all the white boats. An attractive scene.

Très beau portrait de ce joueur de cornemuse, intéressant instrument qu'il faut apparemment un bon souffle a voir l'expression du monsieur, j'aime le contraste de son pull rouge avec le bleu de la mer, très jolie présentation ( il ne manque plus que le son :-)

Bon, il manque le son mais là n'est pas le but de la photo ... très bien prise avec ce musicien, la lumière est splendide et valorise le contraste de couleurs entre ce rouge et le bleu de l'eau, belle prise.
