Today a little experiment from my ski holiday a couple of years ago. I try a macro from some ice on my balkony of our appartment. I like the blue of the ice. I hope you like it.

I love this idea! The blue is perfect for this, and the DOF is great against the sharp edge of the ice. Hope you do not get too cold if this is the ice on the balcony! We are in the middle of summer here, so this has a wonderful cooling effect. Nice work Robbert!

Joli on a l'impression que les montagnes en arrière plan se reflètent dans la glace, une très bonne maitrise de la profondeur de champ.

Very nice shot Robbert. This is very good because the ice looks very much like the mountains in the background. It is interesting to see how similar phenomena can create similar structures in totally different scales.

Hm, yes I like it, but why? Maybe because one can actually make out a real mountain in the background in spite of the terrific DOF. And maybe because there is some kind of mirror effect with blue and white at both the top and the bottom. I can understand why you framed it. It is very arty.

Very great try , what a beautiful photo you get here , the blurring back ground show to us the beautiful colors of the ice .. well seen

A crisp and vivid view of the ice in the foreground which stands out well because of the DOF background.Perhaps it is my own weak eyes :-) but I do find there is perhaps too much dominance of the blurred proportion of the overall image...I find it draws the viewer away from the main attraction which is your ice.

A fantastic shot, Robbert. The colours and texture of the ice is amazing. I like the way the light makes different shades of blue inside the ice. The blurred background makes the shot work. Very well seen.

GREAT shot Robert. I like the DOF here. A welcome cahnge from your boat pictures. Not that I don't like them but this one is certainly refreshing. The blue is really cool!

C'est l'oeil du photographe qui s'exprime ici, vous avez su capturer un morceau de glace qui si l'on regarde bien évoque la mer ! Image inconsciente de la mer et de ses régates ?

It is the eye of the photographer who expresses himself here, you knew to capture a piece of ice which if one looks at well evokes the sea! Unconscious image of the sea and its regattas? Very well done Robbert.

I'd say for an experiment it came out pretty darn good, Robbert. Being a mountain lover, I would probably have started with focusing the other way round (i.e. on the mountain and trees in the back) but I have to say I like the slightly abstract feel of your version. Interesting light effects, and the surface texture of the ice patch resembles the waves in some of your boating shots. Good idea, and nice result.
