Photographer's Note

The report last week on Dutch Television about the clear out of the last Berlin squat Lieblig 34, made me decide to post this series about another building with alternative housing in Berlin with priority.

Tommy Weissbecker House
Self-Managed Collective Housing
Wilhelmstraße 9 - Kreuzberg, Berlin

Since 1973, the Tommy-Weisbecker-Haus has existed as a residential collective alternative housing where adolescent and young adults have the opportunity to live in a self-organized way.
"Trebegänger" - young people who have run away from home - are also welcome. Social workers are available to assist residents if necessary.

Since 1990 there is in the house the well-known café "Linie 1", where concerts are often organized. Famous bands like Rage Against The Machine and Chumbawamba already played there.
In addition, the hemp museum has been located in the Tommy-Weisbecker-Haus since 1994.

Photo 1 shows a detail of the mural on the front-façade.
Photo 2 shows the entire front-façade with the entrance to the Tommy Weissbecker House and the entrance to café "Linie 1"

Photo 3 shows the rich decorated mural on the left side façade.
