Photographer's Note

I have cropped the far left as the lead lion had its head out of frame. In the fg is a replica model of the Babylonian Ishtar Gate showing the main gate. In the bg is the real thing with part of the processional hall decoration leading up to the gate. There is also a part of this lion and daisy wall in Istanbul Museum. They are probably safer in Berlin / Istanbul at the moment than in Iraq.

Let's just hope the Russians don't decide to bomb Berlin! Priceless 5000 year old Chinese antiquities were destroyed in WWII after allied bombs hit part of the old Berlin museum.

It was built by King Nebuchadnezzar II and removed brick by brick from Babylon near Baghdad in Iraq, and faithfully reconstructed in Berlin.

It was impossible to remove the reflection on the glass enclosure encasing the model, but it adds as much as it detracts imho.
