Photographer's Note
Karl Lagerfeld. Photography. Die Retrospektive
Kunstmuseum Moritzburg – Halle (Saale)
Halle (Saale) was the last German city that Lars and I visited during our summer trip last year.
It was interesting to compare Dresden, Leipzig and Halle. The three cities are fairly close to each other and all three are in the area of the former GDR.
Logically, in Dresden dominates, in addition to its rich history, the memory of the horrors of WWII.
The rich history can also be found in the other two cities, where Leipzig shows itself most as a modern western city and in Halle the atmosphere of the GDR can still be found.
However, this does not apply to the "Kunstmuseum Moritzburg" in Halle
The foundation stone was laid in 1484. The castle became the residence of the Archbishops of Magdenburg.
From 1904 it became a museum. Since the 1990s, the Moritzburg has been used exclusively by the Moritzburg Art Museum in Halle (Saale) and extensive renovation work was started in 2005. The former ruins of the west and north wing were given a new, futuristic-looking, folded roof, making the museum got new exhibition space. The renovation was completed in 2008.
We visited the fascinating exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld. Photography. Tie Retrospektive ”.
The eccentric Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, is best known as a fashion designer. Since 1983 he was chief designer of the fashion house Chanel.
Less known is his work as an artist and photographer.
The exhibition gave an excellent image of its versatility.
A large number of billboards with images of Lagerfeld were set up in front of the museum entrance.
Photo 1 shows the meeting of one of the visitors with the artist who appears to be taking a picture of her.
Photo 2 shows the work “Suite 3906 - Hommage à Edward Hopper, especially for Lars and other admirers of Hopper.
Photo 3 shows a shop window in Große Ulrichstraße 28, where it seems that not everyone appreciates Lagerfeld's
work.

Dear Rob,
This is such a witty photo that one doesn't see every day on TE! Its execution (I mean the chosen POV, the framing) is excellent. Not to mention that the late Lagerfeld was recognizable immediately even on the thumbnail. It earned its place among my favourites.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Rob,
Karl Lagerfeld may have been easily identifiable already from the thumbnail, but even more obvious is that this is one of your photos. This style can not be mistaken. The added photos may not be equally typical, but on second thought I don't think so many other members of the site would have made the same choice. Lagerfeld himself gets most credit for the smart designs of Suite 3906. While you didn't create the "design" of photo #3 you noticed the photo opportunity and composed and cropped it very neatly. I actually think the graffiti and the vandalization of the window benefit the composition.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the concentration of the woman looking at the artwork. The point of view is showing the details of the artwork. It is clear and sharp. Have a nice day.

Goedemiddag Rob,
Karl Lagerfeld echt een speciaal iemand, maar hij deed het steeds weer.
U kreeg deze dame als model voor jou lens.
Dit paste heel mooi voor de andere fotograaf.
Mooi fotowerk Rob. Bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John

Hello Rob, I was unaware that Karl Lagerfeld was a photographer, so these shots were a nice surprise, and perfectly accompanied by your notes.
The tight framing of this shot works perfectly, with so much of Lagerfeld still clear to see.
I too like the 'Homage to Hopper', a favourite artist of mine.
A pity that the window in photo 3 has been spoiled, but I like the silhouette of Lagerfeld with his back to the pavement. It is an excellent invitation to enter and see what he is looking at.
Kind regards, Jean.

Would not identify the famous man in the poster unless reading the note, Rob.
Nice idea when the lady in blue stood in front, like she was posing to the photographer.
Good evening,

Hallo Rob,
Deze vrouw wilde natuurlijk maar wat graag zeggen dat ze een keer voor de lens van Lagerfeld had gestaan en droomde misschien ook al om in een echte foto-shoot van de excentrieke modeontwerper te schitteren.

Hello Rob,
I just love this main photograph!
What a well timed shot!
The photographer looks to be focussing on the visitor; you just could not have staged it better!
Your w/s are very well executed photographs but ... this is the best!
We went to the Bowes Museum in 2019 where there was an exhibition of Karl Lagerfeld's fashion designs. I seem to remember there were photographs, too.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Rob
A trio of interesting photos.
This one made me smile. The lady looks like she is posing for a photo, while she is really being photographed from behind. :-)
Best wishes

Hi Rob
A good trio of photos from that exhibition - all interesting but the main one with the woman looking like she is the subject of the photographer is particularly well composed.
cheers

Hi Rob,I recently saw a documentary dedicated to this designer who recently passed away. He is truly a unique, charming and self-centered character. I would also have liked to visit this photographic exhibition dedicated to him, you only offer us a taste, but as always made with great class and excellent technique.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Rob
I like all the images, but you chose well with this one. The contrast in style with the photographer and the tennis shoes on the woman create a very interesting image. I am not, an will never be part of the fashion industry, but do like some of the visions that these photographers have. nice work and different.

Hi Rob
Very cleverly framed and well timed. The lens is on you, staring from every angle and she just a casual observer. It's an eye-catching shot, crisp and great colours.

Hello Rob, Excellent three pictures from this Museum. Striking composition with this lady in dark blue. But what she has? It looks like a safety belt from the plane. Lagerfeld has strange gloves also.

Hi Rob,
What a nice capture. The lady is squeezed between two photographers. The photographer in the photo has cool gloves, I think I need to buy those for colder days sine it is hard to operate camera wit gloves and freezing without...
Interesting note, so basically you are saying that Leipzig has not much to see there while Halle has a provincial touch.
I almost ended up in Halle. They have a nice research institute and so close to Poland. That was the research which I wanted to do but I chose Los Angeles instead, at that time.
