Photographer's Note

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a result of a huge and time consuming project started a couple of years after tearing down Berlin wall. It's located on the place of former Lehrter Bahnhof very close to where the wall used to split the city. The station complex has five stories open for public.

The station was opened in May 26th, 2006. Berlin hasn't had a single main station before. Before WW II there were several end stations depending on the direction of travel. And during Berlin wall era the operations were mainly separated between East and West.

Fortunately the region of the new development near the former Berlin Wall is not too densely planned, leaving open park areas to enjoy for example picnics.
