A view of some of the buildings that face the Town Hall in the German medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the Franconia region of Bavaria, Germany. It is well known for its well-preserved medieval town centre, a destination for tourists from around the world. It is part of the popular Romantic Road through southern Germany.

The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" means, in German, "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words rot (red) and burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. The name may also refer to the process of retting ("rotten" in German) flax for linen production.

Hello Stephen,
Whatever the name of the city is derived from it looks like a nice place. These buildings are impressive and quite pretty at the same time, also painted in well chosen pastel colours. At first sight they look quite similar but are actually all very different. There are enough people in the square to create a lively view but not many enough to distract from the view of the buildings, or to hide the lovely pattern of the cobbled stones. You chose a good angle and the colours are very attractive.

Also a nice architecture with the fronts.
