Another scene from the German medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber; a pleasant place to stroll on a sunny afternoon.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the Franconia region of Bavaria, Germany. It is well known for its well-preserved medieval town centre, a destination for tourists from around the world. It is part of the popular Romantic Road through southern Germany.

The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" means, in German, "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words rot (red) and burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. The name may also refer to the process of retting ("rotten" in German) flax for linen production.

Yes, a most pleasant place for an afternoon stroll and you have captured this scene perfectly in this delightful photograph which shows off not only the beautiful architecture of the place but also some colourfully dressed people enjoying the place and the glorious sunshine.

A very pleasingly composed shot in which the cobbled roadway leads the eye past the lovely buildings to the distant archway under the clock tower which is perfectly placed in the frame. Despite the very strong sunlight coming in from the right, you have managed the light remarkably well so that we can see detail in not only the deepest shadows but also in the very brightest parts.

Lovely light and glorious colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Un village à visiter comme on visite les village alsaciens, avec les yeux tous grands ouverts. La rue principale est animée par les touristes et les maisons à colombages sont de toute beauté.

My first thought on seeing this was chitty chitty bang bang. Is so quaint is almost unreal. The people are very important in the view to being a touch of real life into such a scene. Every element of the buildings is maintained so well!

This town looks so charming with its half-timbered house, pastel coloured facades, cobbled street and the clocktower gate. Also the old signs on the facades on the left hand side are a wonderful detail. The people enliven the photo on this sunny day.

when i look at this, i can't help but think how touristy it is...what are you thoughts on it? In a funny sort of way it almost looks FAKE, like its a set up by Disney Corporation.
it almost has that TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE look.
personally, i think i'd like it better if the buildings has a more dirty, grunge-look, with aged wood, not the pristine colored paint - but thats just me. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this place.

but all of that has nothing to do with you :)
its not your fault.

as for the photo, it was taken in very harsh light, but it still came out very well. the colors pop, the depth is very good, and there's lots for us to view

Hello Stephen, This is the mostly photographed place in Rothenburg, and the most attractive. Nice picture with fine composition, lovely colours and nice holiday atmosphere. Beautiful for the stroll at any time.
