Elbphilharmonie – The Façades

One of the reasons for including Hamburg in our itinerary was my wish to visit the Elbphilharmonie.
As a regular visitor to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, I was very curious about this new music temple.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to compare the world-famous acoustics with the Hamburg hall because no concerts were given there thanks to Covid-19.

The construction of the Elbphilharmonie was initially a much criticized project, but after its completion in 2017, the result was widely praised and applauded.

Lars had already photographed the exterior of this fascinating building in April 2019. (https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Germany/photo1570817.htm)
Fortunately, despite Covid 19, it was possible to visit the building inside.

Lars already announced that he expected I also should post the necessary photos of Elfi.
And here comes the first series.

First, let's take a closer look at the very eye-catching glass curtain wall facade of this special building.

1100 facade elements in which 2200 panes of glass are included. 600 of these are spherically curved.
The way that the various components of the façade are put together envokes sea waves and trigger an interplay of particulary engaging refelctions.
To reduce solar input within the building and modulate the eastatic effect a variety of treatments were applied to the glass such as a double tecture formed by reflective chrome-like dots and grey circular screen printing.

Let’s face the outside façades in detail:
