Photographer's Note
Whenever I'm at the Main Train Station I feel the need to leave this busy hectic "negative vibration" place. So here I caught a train leaving the station. I chose b&w because the pic would be just too colourful for me, even adding to the hectic.
The Main Train Station is a huge hall and it was late afternoon, even little dark outside already. So I put my cam with the minitripod on a rounded handrail and set the self-timer. This is the result after postprocessing in PS6. Autolevels for colours and contrast, b&w, rotating 0.4 clockwise and minor cropping plus a little unsharp mask.
Yours, Jan

A wonderful, yet extremely complex picture Jan, showing so very many different lines, tones, contrast and character. An excellent choice for B&W. Very well done.

Great, moody photo Jan. I like this curves at the ceiling. B&w works perfect here.
Well done!

Dear John good morning. I like this picture very much. There is a lot of movement, combained with great details. The B & W is well chosen. It looks almost like a old station! I love the train in the bottom. Well done.

It does look busy but the wide angle of your camera and your decision to make it BW is a very smart move: it does show the expanse of the station. So many patterns to explore but then again, it has its charm because of this chaos.

nice one, very industrial, a lot of interesting shapes and patterns here, and those little people there is a nice addition. B&W really works here, good stuff

I like very much the Black & White. It fits with the theme of the photo. I also think that the frame you are using, it adds a lot to the whole picture. Very nice!

A delightfully busy scene from the Hamburg station, Jan. So much to look at here - and you really found an astonishing shooting angle that in addition to showing the vibrancy of the daily life going on down there really showcases the beautiful construction with the steel arcs very well. The motion blur of the train at the bottom right is also a plus. You know I'm the color guy, but I guess b&w was a reasonable decision here ;-) Really well done.

Wow! This is great. And right now behind me is the Hamburg-Hertha game so this is total Hamburg right now. there's so much excitement and commotion in this scene. The train moving in the bottom, the people, all the signs, the light, all the details of the station's structure. It's really full of energy and so like a train station. Those arrows up on the back add more movement. The movement from darkness under the arches on the right to light on the left adds even more dynamic energy. Really expresses the feel of it all. And the b/w tones are awesome. This is a really great view of a station. Great job, Jan!

Hi Jan, I love train station, and this is shown from a very good angle. The use of b/w is good and there's a very good perspective. I shot some photos yesterday at Victoria station, London, and I can't wait to post it. I like the metal construction very much. Well done.

This Bahnhof is very nicely captured here, Jan. It has a very Victorian feel. the architecture helps, but it is your tones and your point of view that make this remarkable.

I remember reading that you don't like trains in one of your photos.
You shot the harder angles of perspection
thats what makes them good.
this is a busy image but train stations are that way.
B/W works very well.

The B&W adds a very dramatic feel to the photo. I like how you framed the steel contruction on the right side of the photo. By the way, I also like the Frankfurt main station. If you happen to have a photo, just post it on TE ;)

Awesome point of view for this train station Jan. The angle you choosed allows to quietly observe the numerous and interesting details of the daily life there. Shutter speed is well choosed also as it gives a slight motion blur to the train in foreground. Those metallic supporting structures are impressive and B&W processing is very well suited here. We get a very good idea of the dimensions of the station. Very well composed and rendered. Congratulations Jan.

Great sense of space and repeating patterns in this composition. The strong architecutural elements keep the photo from becoming too busy, thus allowing the activity in the station to come into focus. Well done.

excellent cliché qui rappelle les années 50. Netteté des détails ; peut-être pas assez de contrastes au centre de la photo ? l'immensité de cette gare que j'ai découverte l'an passé est bien traduite par le format du cadrage. Super Jan !
