Chalcis or Chalkida, the capital of the island of Evia in Greece, is situated on the strait of the Evripos at its narrowest point. In the late Middle Ages, it was known as Negropont.

The Red House belonging to the family «Malliou» decorates the northern sea front. It belongs to the borough of Chalkida and was built in 1884 by the French architect Flengis. This house was very often at the past, the summer house of the Greek kings. It was a clinic also at the past.
