Panta Vrehei, a photo from Evritania, Central Greece

Photographer's Note

Back from a 10 days trip to the magnificent prefecture of Evritania. It was my first time there and I can't describe my enthousiasm for this unique region (which I hope that you will share with me after some posts). In my humble opinion, probably the best place in Greece for winter escapes. No sea there, just mountains (many peaks above 2000 meters), dozens of rivers, canyons, and limitless oportunities for sports such as rafting, canyoning, ski, horse riding, trekking etc. You 'll need many days to discover all of its beauty, given that places that appear to be close in the map, take several hours to be reached because of the snake-like, narrow roads that go up and down the mountains. Besides the exquisite natural beauty (more than 80% of the prefecture is covered by dense forests) there are also many picturesque villages, some of them abandoned that could be the scenery for some "old time" film shooting.

So now lets go to this particular place, one of the most beautiful places I have seen in my entire life. This is a canyon called "Panta Vrehei" (in Greek it means "it's always raining") and that's because no matter which season of the year, dozens of waterfalls will keep you wet, with the help of Krikelopotamos, the river that runs through this beautiful place.

How to get there: There are a couple of ways to get there, but adventure is always present, no matter which one you choose. What you 'll need for sure is a good 4X4 vehicle to reach the entrance of the canyon, a good guide, and a change of clothes once you're back, and if you can't stand the cold water, a diving uniform will do you good.

I took the dirtroad, that starts right before the beautiful village called Megalo Horio and I went all the way up, very close to the peak of Kaliakouda mountain (about 2.150m) . Then I went all the way down, through the rocky road, passing through the virgin forest till I reached the river. I left my car there and I started walking through the canyon. I had to walk inside the river, and in many cases the water was up to my chest, so I had to keep my equipment high above my head. I had no diving uniform with and I was freezing but when I reached the heart of Panta Vrehei, it was 1.000.000% rewarding, an experience I 'll never forget.

Nothing of this would be possible without the help and the guidance of Antonis, the owner of a beautiful guesthouse called "Ninemia", at Voutiro, who along with his wife, Demi, honoured me with the warmest hospitality I have ever felt in my life.

The curtain of smooth waterfalls and the greens are very nice. I find the creek overexposed by about a couple of stops though. Curious how you metered here. Still a fine shot. Regards,

It is a very nice shot here, captured from a good pov. The diagonal perspective is perfectly chosen and the light control is very good. The long exposure works well in order to obtain this nice silky effect on the water. Well done!

Εκπληκτική η φωτογραφία σου. Τα 3sec έκαναν καταπληκτική δουλειά με το νερό.

el efecto sedoso en el agua que has obtenido con la exposición larga es realmente bonito, me gusta su textura entre este bello paisaje verde y húmedo.

Los colores diferentes que presenta el musgo pegado a la roca te da una magnifica composicion junto a la caida del agua que parecen hilos de seda, las rocas amarillas producen un buen contraste a tu foto la cual encuentro que es magnifica, tiene una definicion excelente y un buen punto de vista.
