The Stone Bridge of the city of Arta is the most famous stone bridge in Greece. It may not be the biggest, or the most beautiful, but it certainly is the most historic. Legend has it that during its construction, back in 18th century, the stonemason could not figure out how to ensure the stability of the bridge, due to the unstable ground at the banks. The solution was that a person had to be "sacrificed" and be built within the bridge in order to ensure its solid construction. The volunteer was the wife of the stonemason...
The bridge is located at the city of Arta, in Epirus region, in northern Greece.
