Photographer's Note

The beautiful town and port of Nafplio was once, briefly, the first capital of Greece. It is dominated by a huge outcrop of rock on which various large fortifications have been built, to take advantage of its strategic position looking down the Gulf of Argolis.
The fortresses and the neoclassical architecture of the Old Town owe their existence mainly to the Venetian occupation of 1686 to 1715 and the subsequent
re-taking of the town by the Ottomans. It has great charm and elegance and a wonderful marble paved central square. All very photogenic!
Scanned from a print, contrast increased and sharpened.
