The Lonely Tree, a photo from Arkadia, Peloponnesus

Photographer's Note

This is a random scene, as I was driving and exploring the great Arkadia region, from Megalopoli, to Karytaina, Stemnitsa and Dimitsana, Elliniko, Vytina, and return to Tripoli. (Yes that day I traveled a lot)

As you travel to Arkadia you'll notice the endless fields. As I was driving from Megalopoli to Karytaina, after the power station, there are many fields, in which I found this one smiling at me. The dramatic sky was perfect and also needed for this scene, which I couldn't believe my eyes. Like an explorer who found a treasure, more likely a Photographer who found the perfect scene.

About the shot:

I just couldn't wait! for a moment I couldn't believe I was seeing this, the light was perfect the scene also perfect, I didn't waste time to think how should I shot this scene manually, as my favorite Aperture Priority (AP) (f/8 for a sharp result) with my forgotten and locked ISO 100, were more than satisfying. (EV/0 or EV-1/3).
I took a few shots as always just to avoid the "out of focus" problems (never trust the AF in your widelens, at 18mm like this one, as the small viewfinder doesn't help much) don't risk it. Spare the a few shots in such cases, be generous! or else, imagine yourself being there capturing an out of focus scene: And know what? you've missed it, can't turn back time buddy!
I forgot to mention:
A polarizer filter was also used, to sweeten those colours and make the sky look angrier :)

Hi Stelios
I love the saturated greens here which contrast so well against the dark clouds. The tree works well placed in the middle as it's very attractive in itself. I would have just erased the little white arrow in the background.

Yo Stelios,

I like the centred composition that allows the strength of the landscape come through. the clouds provide interesting light that scatters itself across the shot. I like how you have given the tree a subtle illumination as I think it attracts the eye easier and more rapidly.

Η επεξεργασία έχει αναδείξει το θέμα, που ωστόσο, και χωρίς ιδιαίτερη προσπάθεια θα μπορούσε να αναδειχτεί και μόνο του. Μου αρέσουν αυτές οι σκηνές και εσύ την έχεις πετύχει στο έπακρο.

What a nice composition with magic colours. You made a big tour of this beautiful Arkadia. I love all the villages you wrote and plan to go there in November. The sky an the light are great there as you show on your photo.

η φωτογραφία σου είναι υπέροχη!
Τα χρώματα κυριολεκτικά λάμπουν και η ευκρίνεια είναι επίσης δεδομένη. Πολλοί λένε ότι οι απλοί φακοί που δίνονται στο kit δεν είναι καλοί. Πολλές φορές έχω δεί ότι δεν ευσταθεί, όπως και εδώ. Αν θέλει κανείς όλα τα καταφέρνει!
Η σύνθεση είναι και πάλι θα ξαναπώ καταπληκτική!

Στέλιο γειά σου,
Όπως βλέπω ανέβασες αρκετά τα χρώματα και μάλιστα τα κυρίαρχα, το πράσινο και το μπλε και σε συνδιασμό με το unsharp mask έδωσαν αυτό το εξαιρετικό αποτέλεσμα.Είχα και εγώ μια Canon 350D σαν πρώτη αγορά αλλά αυτήν την ποιότητα δεν την είχα ποτέ.Είπα ότι θα φταίει ο φακός, τον άλλαξα και πήρα τον EF_S 17-85 αλλά και πάλι δεν με ικανοποιούσαν τα αποτελέσματα.Τελικά το μυστικό είναι η βαθιά γνώση του Photoshop.Εσύ απ'ότι βλέπω και από το αποτέλεσμα είσαι expert στη χρήση του.
Η φωτογραφία σου εξαιρετική και πολύ φωτεινή.

Sorry I missed this one, I love pictures of solitary trees, and here you have captured a great example. The colours of the lush green grass and the detailed sky are spot on. I would perhaps have placed the tree less central, but you have done a great job here.

Μια από τις αγαπημένες μου. Λείπει μόνο ο πιο αγριεμένος ουρανός για να ολοκληρωθεί η τελειότητα και ίσως λίγο clarification και contrast στα σύννεφα. Εντυπωσιακό πράσινο.
