Photographer's Note

Under the deep red cliffs of the village of Oia, lies one of the most idyllic spots of Santorini, the Ammoudi Bay. Located in the northern-east part of the island, you can get there on foot or using a transportation like scooter, taxi or car. If you decide on the first option, be prepared to walk down a flight of supposedly 300 steps.

In past, when most of population on the island were natives, this path was used as a method of transportation between the bay and the village. The main form of transportation were donkeys.

Today, riding them through this long stairway is touristic attraction and it represents very profitable business for local population.

Amoudi bay is also famous for the traditional Greek taverns with fresh fish and romantic sunsets. During the sunset this place is usually crowded; people sit watching the horizon where the big red ball is slowly sinking into the sea, as the fishing boats dance to the rhythm of the waves. Among the taverns, the Katina Taverna is one of the better one, serving fresh seafood in generous portions.
