Photographer's Note

The still-active volcanic island of Nea Kameni sunset can be viewed from Firostefani, or just behind the St Spirou Church that lies between Firostefani and Immerovigli.

Nea Kameni is the eastern Mediterannean’s youngest volcanic landform, and today it is a protected natural monument and national geological park. It has erupted approximately eight times in the past 1,900 years; it’s been dormant since 1950, causing little problems.
As Nea Kameni is a national geological park, visitors are reminded to not take any volcanic ‘souvenirs’ away with them.
