Photographer's Note

Whilst I was staying in Halki town major work was in progress laying a new drainage system. Section by section trenches were dug - causing a lot of difficulties with access around the harbour area. The race was on to get the work done between the end of the holiday season and the onset of winter weather. The problems, however, were compensated for by the drama it provided for locals and visitors. Each day regular inspections were made - even the local dogs took an interest! At some times most of the men of the town seemed to be congregating around that day's
excavations.
The texture of this image ( and the black grid )is the result of shooting through the plastic awning of a taverna.
