Photographer's Note

The rusty hoop has been attached to this quay of the enormous Lakki bay for many decades, placed there by the Italian Royal Navy, that used Lakki from 1912 to 1943 as its principal naval base in Eastern Mediterranean. This area is called Ayios Georgios (the Italians called in San Giorgio).

Now the quay is being used by the Greek Navy. Across the bay, in the background, lies the town of Lakki and further away the Castle.
