Kephalonia

Kefalonia, formerly also known as Kefallinia,is the largest of the Ionian Islands in western Greece. It is also a separate regional unit of the Ionian Islands region, and the only municipality of the regional unit. It was also a former Latin Catholic bishopric Kefalonia–Zakynthos (Cefalonia–Zante) and short-lived titular see as just Kefalonia.

The capital of Cephalonia is Argostoli.

Geography

The main island of the regional unit is Cephalonia and has a size of 773 km2 (300 mi2), with a population density of 55 people per km2 (140/mi2). The town of Argostoli has one-third of the island's inhabitants. Lixouri is the second major settlement, and the two towns together account for almost two-thirds of the prefecture's population.

The other major islands are: Petalas Island, Asteris Island, but they are uninhabited.

Kephalonia lies in the heart of an earthquake zone, and dozens of minor, unrecorded tremors occur each year. In 1953, a massive earthquake destroyed almost all of the settlements on the island, leaving only Fiskardo in the north untouched.

Important natural features include Melissani Lake, the Drogarati caves, and the Koutavos Lagoon in Argostoli.

The island has a rich biodiversity, with a substantial number of endemic and rare species. Some areas have been declared a site in the European Union’s Natura 2000 network.

Lep pogled i trenutak, interesantan i dobar tekst ...
Dobar rad, kompozicija, perspektiva i kontrast, lepe boje, lepo pokazano, lepa panorama.
Lepo mesto za odmor sa lepim pogledom na more.

Hello Danos,
This is a remarkable building at the end of the pier, looking like nothing I have seen in such a place. It is a very attractive composition of this stretch of artificial land with the hazy blue hills in the distance and a sailing boat seen to the right. I like the slightly yellow tones of the photo and the well captured reflections of the sky in the water.

μια όμορφη και ενδιαφέρουσα σκηνή, ρομαντική και μελαγχολική, κατά την άποψη μου, παρά τη θαλπωρή των ζεστών και γλυκών αποχρώσεων. Μου αρέσει ο τρόπος που ξεχωρίζουν τα τρία στοιχεία πάνω από τον κυματοθραύστη. Αν και απέχουν το ένα από το άλλο, φαίνεται να τα συνδέει ένας ρυθμός. Συγχαρητήρια και ευχαριστώ!

The wideness of the area is giving depth to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the lighthouse. A good management of the strong light which does not hurt the output of the colors. Have a nice day.

This a wonderful photo of this lovely lighthouse' Curiosity prompts me to wonder if this is an actively used lighthouse. Here many of our lighthouses are no longer used, but at maintained by parks association and other means. Certainly the time of day that this was taken gives the almost pinkish tint to the photo. Moreover, I like the composition with the structure a bit off center and not in the middle of the picture and secondly, the sail boat gives the viewer a point to turn their eyes toward the shore in the background . Well done.

It is an interesting lighthouse, it looks like a gazebo. Maybe it should be called a lightgazebo.

Kalimera Danos,
The light-house looks more as a pavilion or a small shrine, unlike the typical light-towers we see elsewhere.
Modern with older style, the pillars is a nice design, and you well placed it over the picture space, allow more sescape to be seen.

hello Danos, usually we think about lighthouses as the high tower. Here it is low and looks more like a small temple. Charming composition with the small sailing boat.

Hi Danos

I also left Kefalonia after the deluge and returned to Patra. Melissani Lake looked especially inviting and worth the bus trips from Poros to Argostoli to Sami. Then a tour boat. Good sharpness and a soft diffused light. Perhaps we can catch up on my next trip to Greece? I am off to Bari in Italy from Igoumenitsa at midnight. Tfs!

Very original construction of the lighthouse, as if it were a small circular temple, the image is beautiful with malecon over rocks and lighthouse at the end, the boat right and the pink tint of the image, give a special charm.
Good image perspective, very pleasing to the eye.
Color, sharpness and brightness are excellently captured.

we don't see lighthouses like that very often now do we!?
very strange looking indeed, but well worthy of a post and worthy of admiration.

unique color to it aswell, kind of a creamy yellow or beige.
interesting history of the local area too.
fine post with the sailboat off to the far right, I like that
