Photographer's Note

This is a "portrait" of the famous shipwreck called "Panagiotis" at the impressive beach of Navagio [Ναυάγιο] (=shipwreck in Greek) in Zakynthos island.

Here's the story...

In 1980, a freighter was pursued by the Greek Navy. The crew were suspected of smuggling contraband and the navy chased the ship through the Ionian sea.

Allegedly there was 'wine, tobacco and women' on board and the chase came to an abrupt end when the ship ran aground in stormy weather on the coast to the north of the island at Porto Vromi.

Zante Shipwreck Timeline:-

1937 - St Bedan built in Scotts Bowling Yard in Glasgow for J & A Gardner.

1964 - Sold to Greek owners, M Gigilinis and S Kakassinas of Thessaloniki and renamed Meropi.

1966 - Renamed Charis.

1975 - Sold by NS Kalfas to P Lisikatos of Piraeus renamed Panagiotis.

October 1980 - Run aground on Zakynthos and abandoned.

How interesting... To see such a ship on the beach seems unusual and apparently.. very touristy.. LOL. I nice documentary shot, but appears to my eye that has been over sharpened bit..

Καλημέρα Μπάμπη.
Ωραια φωτογραφία με αυτό το καδράρισμα και την γωνία λήψης.Επίσης και ο φωτισμός πολύ ωραίος.Εντυπωσιακή η στάση των τουριστών στα δεξιά, πολοι μοιαζουν να τους μαγνητίζει το ναυάγιο. Νομίζω και εγώ ότι με την οξύτητα έχεις υπερβάλει κάπως.

Everytime that I see this ship and this beach I am surprised.
Must be amazing be there among that old ruin.
A beautiful place so full of history!!!

And your photo also show to us the people around the old ship.

Hi Mpampis,
Good to see you again.A lovely sunny shot much different to the weather now outside my window.I like the wide angle yo have created showing how it is stuck so far inland amongst the cliffs.Good colour and detailand I hope that young lady was careful up there.Have a good weekend.

Μπάμπη ευχαριστούμε για αυτήν τη φωτογραφία.
Επιτέλους μία φωτογραφία απο διαφορετική οπτική γωνία απο την καθιερωμένη απο ψηλά.
Οχι πως δε μάρέσουν και εκείνες οι λήψεις αλλά όταν βλέπεις κάτι το διαφορετικό πάντα σου κινεί την περιέργια και σου δημιουργεί άλλα συναισθήματα

Πολύ όμορφη εικόνα από το ναυάγιο!Η οπτική γωνία λήψης σου την κάνει ιδιαίτερα ιδιαίτερη!!!!:-)
Ο κόσμος που περιβάλει το "πλοιο" δημιουργεί μια άλλη ατμόσφαιρα από αυτή που είχαμε συνηθίσει προσθέτοντας κινητικότητα στο ναυάγιο!Ο βράχος πίσω δείχνει υπέροχος καθώς και εκείνο το κομμάτι του ουρανού!Ομορφα χρώματα.
Με πιάνει μια νοσταλγία για το καλοκαίρι....

Πολλή ωραία εικόνα από το πανέμορφο αυτό νησί.Είχε πολύ ήλιο εκείνη την μέρα και η εξισορρόπηση του φωτισμού ήταν δύσκολη.Ωστόσο πιστεύω ότι το φίλτρο έκανε την καλύτερη δουλειά που μπορούσε.

Πολυ ωραια η σκηνη Μπαμπη με το γνωστο ναυαγιο και ολους αυτους τους ανθρωπους να το πλαισιωνουν αυξονοντας το ενδιαφερων της φωτογραφιας.Πετυχημενος και ο φωτισμος παρα τον δυνατο ηλιο!

Hi Mpampis,

Fine photo of the shipwreck, good colours and contrast. POV and composition are fine, although if you had taken a few steps to the left or right, you could have showed more of the sides of the wreck, which would tell more about it's nature, I think. Also I feel it's touch oversharpened. Details are nice though. Well done, but watch out with the sharpening next time :-)

La composition est très réussie avec cet arrière-plan composé de magnifiques falaises.

Hi Mpampis,

what you tell us about the shipwreck is very interesting: I didn´t know that it´s so YOUNG!
The perspective is quite unusual, something different from all the "from above" shots. Furthermore, you don´t show as the long side, but the bow.
Very vivid!

Hi Mpampis - this is definitely an unusual perspective on this famous shipwreck: there is no sea!! The people give it scale and the majestic cliffs maka a fine backdrop.

Επιτέλους και μια φωτο του που δεν είναι από μακρυά, πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα η θέση σου. Κατά τα άλλα φαίνεται καθαρά πόσο σκληρός είναι ο καλοκαιρινός ήλιος στην Ελλάδα.

Σαφώς αυτό που ξεχωρίζει σε αυτή την φωτογραφία είναι η διαφορετική οπτική γωνία. Χρειαζόταν και κα΄τι διαφορετικό πέρα από την "κλασική" φωτογραφία του ναυαγίου. Πολύ καλό και το σημείωμά σου!
