Hell on Earth, a photo from Messinia, Peloponnesus

Photographer's Note

Sorry for my delayed last minute daily post.

This is a part from the burned regions in Messinia which took place in late August 2007, almost 10km away from Kalamata, in a village named Perivolakia.

Although my emotions where mixed up by the burned landscape I got over it and start looking the creative side of it if existed.
The sky openings are looking like the missing leaves on the tree. The clouds helped this scene a lot.
My polarizer filter toned it a little bit.

What I wouldn't give in order to miss this picture, from being the whole place saved and look like this.

About the shot:

I needed some sharp detail and a wider DOF, so I used f/16, and because of my weird angle and my unstable hand, I couldn't get below 1/80 shutter speed, so the ISO increasement up to 400 was necessary.

Where should I begin?
I wanted to create a weird sad but soft feeling in this artistic version semi-B/W.

You may wonder on how can possibly be the creation of a "soft sad" feeling? lets say I wanted to avoid to post a raw picture without any further process.

The following filters were applied:
- White balance to warm
- De-saturation
- Blue De-saturation
- Soft focus
- Frame & Title added
- JPEG optimized TE ready

A message picture follows tomorrow about the fires and killing the planet.

The destruction has stood out very well made by the fire in the Greek landscape and the emotion that causes. The burned tree seems shout.

Φανταστική, καλλιτεχνική φωτογραφία! Προκαλεί αίσθημα μελαγχολίας ίσως και ανησυχίας. Νομίζω ότι σε τέτοιες φωτογραφίες δεν χωρά συζήτηση περί του τεχνικού σκέλους (είναι εξαιρετικό), αλλά κυρίως περί του αισθητικού, το οποίο είναι άψογο. Συγχαρητήρια!

Αυτό που κάνει η φωτογραφία, είναι να κρατάει την στιγμή αναλλοίωτη για πάντα. Δεν είναι απαραίτητο να είναι ευχάριστη. Πρέπει να βλέπουμε συχνά τέτοιες φωτογραφίες και να φρεσκάρουμε την μνήμη μας. Να γινόμαστε επικριτικοί και να διορθώνουμε τα λάθη μας. Λυπητερή εικόνα που ΠΡΕΠΕΙ να μας κάνει δυνατούς για το αύριο. Σε ευχαριστώ για αυτή την ρεαλιστική παρουσίαση.

Αυτό που με εντυπωσίασε είναι το καμένο δέντρο που συνδυάζεται με το κενό ανάμεσα στα σύννεφα που θυμίζει φύλλωμα. Την έχω δει και αλλού αυτή την τεχνική αλλά δεν μπόρεσα να την εφαρμόσω μέχρι στιγμής. Η Αθήνα είναι σκληρός τόπος για την εξοχή. Μόνο σε πάρκα βρίσκεται λίγη φύση και αυτή ανάμεσα στους ανθρώπους που συνωστίζονται κάθε ΣΚ. Κρίμα που έβγαλές αυτή την εικόνα. Και λέω κρίμα γιατί δεν θα έπρεπε να υπάρχουν καμένα δάση πουθενά.

Αν και πολύ λυπηρή η εικόνα καμμένης έκτασης, από καλλιτεχνική άποψη είναι καταπληκτική! Πολύ καλή σύνθεση, γωνία λήψης και οι χρωματικοί τόνοι είναι άψογοι! Σε συγχαίρω!
