Photographer's Note

This photo is a tribute to the ones who lost their lives in the tragic fires that took place in late August of 2007 in Greece.

"Let those who lost their lives be guardian angels to the rest of the living..."

It takes 100 years to create a forest: consider that for a second: not 100 hours not even a 100 days,
while the destruction of it can take minutes:
even if we live, our children will?

A simple message to all:

!!! STOP BRAKING THE CHAIN OF LIFE!!!
!!! STOP JUST STOP !!!

Tal como em Portugal a Grécia tem sido desvastada todos os anos por inúmeros incêndios.
A foto retrata essa destruição, em que nem as placas escapam.

Hello Stelio,
Over and above the fact that this image is very well executed, I completely understand the message you're portraying. My family lives in Greece and I heard about these fires all the time, it's actually ridiculous!!! The length that these people go to to destroy is absolutely phenominal!!! Greece is known and is famous for it's natural beauty and here we have these pigs destroying what we're meant to appreciate! These wonderful areas destroyed will not be seen by the next generation, a very sad reality!

Thanks for the strong message expressed by your photo and your note. The struggle must continue against those who want to build "maisonettes" or whatever on the ashes of the forests, and destroy forever the traditional and beautiful landscape of Greece.
Next week, I will go to Ilia and Arkadia and I will see also this desolation.

Μια τρομερη υπενθυμηση για τεραστια οικολογικη καταστροφη του καλοκαιριου και για οτι θα υποστουμε στον μελλον εαν δεν αλλαξουμε ως ανθρωποι και εως κοινωνια...

Hi Stelios!

I can't help but going back again and again to your portfolio. Strong is the message you are giving with this image. It is always devastating seeing burnt land and in sadness collapsed families of fire casulties. I was spending summer in Croatia when 13 firemen lost their lives because of cigarette , I drived through burning land, seeing trees disappearing in seconds... hardly breathing because of all the smoke and fire. It tears you apart. I'm not ashame to admit I cried.

This image goes way beyond 2 points. Thank you for sharing.

Πολύ δυνατή εικόνα. Τα λέει όλα. Ελάχιστη λεπτομέρεια που ενοχλεί είναι τα κλαδάκια που ξεπετιούνται στο πάνω δεξί της φωτογραφίας.

Στέλιο καλησπέρα,
η καμένη πινακίδα θα είναι πάντα επίκαιρη νομίζω απ΄εδώ και στο εξής.Πράγματι μιά ολέθρια περσινή κατάσταση, που δεν πρέπει να ξαναζήσουμε εφέτος.
