Photographer's Note
Olympia (Greek: Ολυμπία or Ολύμπια), a sanctuary of ancient Greece, is known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times. The first Olympic Games dating back possibly further than 776 BC.
This is the entrance of the Ancient Olympic Stadium taken from the Statium. During the big fires of August 2007, firefighters managed to save the archaeological site. According media, six planes, two helicopters, 15 fire engines and 45 firemen had participated in the effort to protect the site. Ancient Olympia was saved, but the surrounding area was devastated, including the sacred Kronio hill on the North (Remember the mythology about Kronos). We can see part of this hill on the right and a large view on the hill on the WS here.
As you can see, many trees are charred or singed.
Munich, which hosted the modern Olympics in 1972, has offered 100,000 euros to help reforest Kronio Hill.

Catherine good morning
Even though a little sharpening would graetly improve it it is a great capture for its color consistency and the beautiful perspective that intensifies the feeling of importance of this ancient site

Hello Catherine,
your access to this place, indicates your deep interest in Greek reality and history, too. Unfortunately all those photos remind me the disaster. I wish you having in the future the chance of capturing wonderful images.
You tried to do the little painless....
You are praiseworthy!
Thank you.
