Smouldering ice, a photo from Veszprem, Ouest

Photographer's Note

I shot this photo yesteday evening in Balatonalmádi, the town where I live now. In this season the lake Balaton, a major tourist attraction and holiday resort of Hungary, should be completely frozen, inviting local people to skate or to surf on ice. This year the cold is not enough strong, so the water is only partially covered by floating ice. A misfortune for the skaters, but a good chance for the photographers.

The image was slightly post-processed, applying a digital neutral density gratuated filter.

Hi Andras,
This is an extremely eye-catching image...I like the diagonal lines formed in the sky by the clouds and the resultant reflection on the ice. The colours are very nice indeed and the sultry, darkish light is inkeeping with the wintery feel of the landscape. Good choice to include the grasses at the front. A fine composition. nagyon szèp a kèp de nem gondoltam volna,hogy ìgy januàr vège felè mèg nincs befagyva a Balcsi.
Amùgy legkozelebb hova kèszulsz.én jovo vasàrnap indulok Etiopiàba 2 1/2 hètre.

Good morning Andras,
again perfect use of a small aperture giving perfect dof.
Fine colors well reflected. The reed reaching the sky contrasts well with the colors.
