Photographer's Note
Interrupting my just started series on Bory Castle I show you photos taken at the anniversary of the 1956 Revolution. The celebrations were rather modest this year, but this 'living exhibition' was held nevertheless. I found the relaxed mood of this two gents spending their brake, so I asked for a photo. In real life it were only the initial days of the revolutions, when participants had a cause to smile. See WS!
Please note the part of the iconic PPSh-41 with its drum magazine in the fg of the main upload!

Helly Gy,
I was too young to remember those days of the revolution but I do know that afterwards we had children from a Hungarian family in the class. This family had fled Hungary.
Most residents of your country have not experienced that time but will of course know the stories from older relatives.
Fortunately, the events are still commemorated as a tribute to those who committed themselves at the time and to prevent the will of the people from ever being suppressed again.
Best regards, Paul

Both people are now very calm but than was this others with the coming of the Russian troops.
Very well done, TFS.

Hello György,
Contrary to Paul I am old enough to remember those events in Hungary. ;-) There seems to be some gap between the commemorations of the heroes resisting the Soviet invasion and the present government's warm relations with a Russia where the Soviet past is more and more idealized.
But of course that doesn't concern this photo. I wonder why they look so friendly and relaxed when having a PPSh-41 aimed at them.
Thanks for your comments today. That photo was of course taken in Indonesia, not in India.;-)
Have a nice Sunday,
Gert

Hi Gyorgy, bad days to remember, wars of revolutions are always bad things to remember. Nice couple in the main pic dressed in the typical clother of 50's, while the WS is very hard, but a perfect way to make understand at young what happen's. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Gyorgy, As a very old woman, I remember the Hungarian revolution. In Poland, we had June 1956 in Poznań - the first of several massive protests against the communist government. Later we had October 1956 - the beginning of the so-called Polish thaw. So, it was a very important year in our history.
great that these events are remembered. Nice picture.
Best regards Malgo

Hello Gyorgy,
They were difficult times but important ones, to remember how people suffered and died to keep their independence. These anniversaries are very much memorials to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
A very sharp photograph but it does make me feel a little uneasy, how happy they look holding guns.
The w/s is even more unsettling ... very effective, the ghosts of the past.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Gy,
Fortunately, this is not a picture of the current situation in Hungary but a reminder of 1956.
I was 8 years old at that time and can still remember the names of Imre Nagy and Janos Kadar from that period.
Excellent presentation
Have a nice Sunday, Groet Rob

A fine picture, Gy. I like the proud smiles on the faces of these guys. A well composed picture too.
Btw: some Hungarian refugees arrived in Antwerp back then, including the grandparents of my best mate.

Hi Gyorgy
A pleasant reenactment with full focus on those guys. I love their uniforms, punchy colour of the armbands and the boys' toys of yesteryears. Glimpse of hammer & sickle's submachine gun is a nice inclusion though. Excellent way to remember the day
Best regards

Hi Gyorgy
Ah, the famous "pepesha", it was well known in Poland too.
It's great that these events are commemorated. The WS made me really really sad.
Best wishes
Kasia
PS. Thanks for your last critique - yes, I must admit I often thought of the main character from Gert's book on my way to Afghanistan. Thankfully it turned out nothing like that. :-)

Hello Gyorgy,
I like this double portrait, with some friendly smiles and interesting clothes. That's quite a weapon, too! The blood-stained coat in the WS makes a strong impression, as well. Take care!
