Photographer's Note
I'm trying to learn black and white lately (as you can see from my last uploads), so any suggestion is welcome. I'm not sure my monitor is perfectly calibrated (it should be) so let me know if it looks dark to you or not. I also know it's not sharp at it should be...
This is a picture of Scanno, in the italian region of Abruzzo. It was taken from a road on the opposite side of the valley. Turned black and white with Silver efex.

Hi Patrick
this is a nice balck and white. I think that the old houses of Scanno are a good subject for B&W. I most like B&W pictures when they contain many tonalities of grey, from deep black to bright white.Like this shot.
Regards.
Francesco.

Ciao Patrick, eh si hai ragione, il bianco e nero gli dona a questo delizioso paesino, mi piace come le hai infilate in diagonale, splendida composizione da un gran bel POV, bravo, ciao Silvio

ciao Patrick,
I saw you added me to your favourites - thanks a lot :)
I picked this photo for two reasons - it's b/w and it reminds me of my mother. I love b/w images and you're beginning in a good way - there's enough tonal range in this photo to make it stand out amongst the many flat grayscale images that some people mistake for b/w...
yes, it's a bit dark but I don't know if increasing the highlights or the contrast would really make a difference. I personally like it, it's an autumnal picture so it should retain some of the gloomy light of this season. the question of sharpness is in my opinion entirely subjective - in this case I would leave it this way, it's not necessary to see every single pixel in every photo... =)
this photo reminds me of my mother because when I was here on a summer camp (more than 35 years ago) and was actually having fun, she decided that I was not having fun and came all the way from Rome to pick me up and get me home... she was a very stubborn woman, my mom.
I see the place has not really changed - I never liked ascents and these were pretty hard ones to walk =)
have a nice evening,
cris

Hello Patrick
The layers of similar structures creates a visual impact with good sharpness.
Yes, a little more contrast, might help, but still a good moody scene.
Good job,
Ray

Hi Patrick,
I think you did a really nice job. Your choice of the older homes stacked together creates a mood and evokes feeling. Very nice.

Hi Patrick!
A very effective POV of a typical old Italian town hanging on the side of a hill! I trust it wasn't hit by the earthquake in April! If it had been, there wouldn't have been much left I expect. I hope such a picturesque place won't ever be hit, but unfortunately, it's in a risky zone, with risky buildings!
Anyway enough about pessimism! Your B&W has worked well, although I would have liked to see the colour version in WS. What I like in these places is the sunlit yellow walls which illuminate the whole hill!
Good work anyway; but I am not very skillful at B&W myself!
Best regards.
Marie Louise.
