Photographer's Note

My 3rd of this series.
We are in Bernalda, a village near Matera in the south of Italy during the St.Bernardino's festival.
I find some news from internet:
St. Bernardino is celebrated twice in Bernalda: on 20th May, the anniversary of his death, and on 31st August, to commemorate the miracle of the Saint who stopped the plague in the town.
A procession of knights and minor figures in costume accompanies the statue of the Saint through the town. The statue is put on an old wooden cart, richly adorned and decorated with images portraying the Saint's life.
To have the honour to carry the Saint, lorry and tractor owners must take part in an auction, which goes on even during the procession; consequently, it may happen that substitutions occur right in the middle of the procession.
It is a noteworthy fact that the famous film director Francis Ford Coppola, originally from Bernarda, took part in the festival a few years ago and filmed a lot of images of the festival with his personal camera.
