Photographer's Note

A "cubiculum," or bedroom in the House of Octavius Quartio, showing some possible signs of looting; before the site was extensively excavated (and protected) looters dug extensive networks of small tunnels into the rooms to find precious objects such as statues and metals for sale to European collectors. This almost perfectly round hole is somewhat suspect... I was also impressed by the bright paint on the walls, which is somewhat protected by its position from much of the direct sunlight which has faded many of the other rooms over the years...
