Sterpeto Castle - Assisi
Sterpeto Castle rises north-east of Palazzo, on one of the hills around Assisi that descend to the Chiascio river. Located on the border between the ancient municipal areas of Assisi and Perugia, on the top of a hill dominated the medieval valley, then marshy and unhealthy.
Its construction dates back to around the 11th century.
The Castle of Sterpeto is named for the first time in an act of the year 1056 with which a certain Maria, daughter of Giovanni, with the consent of Pepo, donates to the church of San Rufino di Assisi their land with houses, meadows, vineyards , olive groves, figs and a part of the Sterpeto Castle itself.
The origin of the toponym reveals the presence of "brushwood" but the place must certainly have been laughing and safe.

The building is fine and the wall is beautifully made. I like the light blue windows, the faded yellow gate and the pink laundry. It was a beautifully clear day with perfect light.

Ciao Silvio,
I like very much the light here. For me it is more important what light you had than what you were actually photographing. The blue sky makes such a difference. The uneven surface of the walls is well emphasized with the nice side light.

This looks like a very strongly built castle, still in good repair, from the sharp details that you supply.
I am curious about the tower and wonder why there is an imitation doorway, so high. Maybe it was for the protection of the actual doorway.
A well judged composition, the main doorway being right on the thirds line.

Very original and curious construction with this coating based on small stones joined with mortar, it looks like a residence without any defensive objective.
