Piediluco Lake, a photo from Terni, Umbria

Photographer's Note

A few kilometers from the falls, there is the Piediluco lake. The emissary, that is the Velino river, is diverted towards Marmore where it flows into the Nera river forming the Marmore waterfall. Piediluco lake is located in central Italy: on its shores stands the village of Piediluco, a fraction of Terni. Located on the south-eastern offshoots of Umbria, with a branch that borders on Lazio, the Piediluco lake, even if it is 1.85 km², can be considered the largest natural lake basin in the region after Trasimeno. The name seems to be able to be interpreted as "at the foot of the sacred wood". Together with the Lungo, Ripasottile and Ventina lakes located in the province of Rieti, it represents one of the remains of the ancient Lacus Velinus, a large basin of alluvial origin that formed starting from the Quaternary. Two WS with different views of the lake.

A qualche chilometro dalle cascate, si trova il lago di Piediluco. L'emissario, cioè il fiume Velino, è deviato verso Marmore dove si getta nel fiume Nera formando la cascata delle Marmore. Il lago di Piediluco si trova nell'Italia centrale: sulle sue rive sorge il paese di Piediluco, frazione di Terni. Collocato alle propaggini sud-orientali dell'Umbria, con un ramo che sconfina nel Lazio, il lago di Piediluco, pur con un'ampiezza di 1,85 km², può essere considerato il più grande bacino lacustre naturale della regione dopo il Trasimeno. Il nome sembra potersi interpretare come "ai piedi del bosco sacro". Insieme ai laghi Lungo, di Ripasottile e di Ventina situati in provincia di Rieti, rappresenta uno dei resti dell'antico Lacus Velinus, grande bacino di origine alluvionale venutosi a formare a partire dal Quaternario. Due WS con diverse viste del lago.

Bonsoir Luciano,

L'étendue du lac donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des arbres et des immeubles. La lumière donne un bon rendu aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Salut Luciano,
Une jolie vue avec ces eaux, bon équilibre dans la présentation avec ce cadrage, un lieu plaisant à visiter, belles vues également avec les Ws et particulièrement cette pyramide, quant à la vue des barques elles donnent l'envie d'aller faire un tour sur ces eaux bleu, tfs.

such big lakes in central italy ever looks a surprise for me, I remember my flight to russia had a view of one of them I guess.
nice these two views of the place.
PS: that plant I posted yesterday is used in gardens, it is dangerous only for small children in case of an accident.

Hello Luciano,
This is a nice view across the lake and the many trees and villas on the shore. Strictly photographically I am in favour of WS #2, which I find better composed. The small white boats and the white buildings in the distance balance each other well along an invisible diagonal line between the corners of the photo. The main picture is slightly heavy on the left side, but I agree there is more to watch. The other WS is a nice view of the perfectly shaped island.

Sadly I had no time left for detours with only a few days left to exit Schengen from Verona. So I missed the lakes of north Italy. Maybe another time? Good colour and sharpness. Tfs!

Hello Luciano,
Your first picture in the WS made me think of a photo I took of the Koh Koun island in Cambodia.
So also Italy has its beautiful green island with a perfect cone shape.
The Piediluco Lake isn't as well known as the famous lakes in the north of your country but it also looks wonderful with its wooded steep mountain slopes surrounding it.

Ciao Caro Luciano,

I wonder if you had a long time deciding between this shot and the one with the moored rowing boats, for both have good compositions and reveal the calm, tranquility of the region. I think you were right, in the end.
I think the f/g bush is an important component, anchoring the f/g well, whilst linking with the trees in the m/g and moving on to the conifer covered hills.
It is a very beautiful setting!
Who wouldn't like to live in that house on the edge of the lake!!

Italy is truly a blessed country. Not only it has such a stunning coastline and cultural sights, it also has some beautiful lakes. I didn't have a chance to visit any of them yet. I suppose I need to start with the northern lakes first someday.

Questo è un bellissimo lago, quando sono andato in Italia a causa del mio tempo e del mio itinerario non ho potuto visitare i laghi. Quando torno voglio sapere almeno Lago di Garda e Lago di Como, questi sono costumi molto belli.

Very well chosen this beautiful photo of the lake as the main photo, although the two of the WS are also magnificent, curious is the volcano-shaped mountain totally wooded, ideal in this main one, the houses by the sea with its jetty and a lot of trees, great perspective with the lines of mountains in the background.
