Photographer's Note
The Isle of Procida is one of the islands in the Bay of Naples. Shooting lightning storms is not my forte but I was reasonably lucky with this lightning strike.
Procida is one of the islands on the Campi Flegrei - the Flegrean Fields, and is therefore volcanic in nature. It's history dates back to the 15th century BC, with Achean remnants having been found. Greek settlers arrived in the 8th century BC.
This island is my happy place. If I ever win the lottery, you'll know where to find me...sitting on my balcony, overlooking my Bay of Naples, sipping on limoncello and munching on prosciutto and mozzarella di bufala.

Ciao Lisa,
Your postings are few and far between these days, but I see that you have been on your holidays again and we have the pleasure of this beautiful image. Perfectly exposed and very well framed. Delightful warm colours whilst the strip of sky complete with lightening strike supplies some cool contrast. Exceptional clarity.

Hello Lisa,
There is a splendid blue hour atmosphere among these houses and the warm light of the lamps. What a beautiful place to watch darkness approaching while sipping on the wine and munching on the prosciutto and mozzarella. The lightning crashing into the sea is an amazing cherry on this tasty cake. You timed the shot so well.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Lisa
A spectacular evening view with flawless sharpness and good color and saturation. I am sure you are aware Campi Flegrei is a dormant super volcano and lately there have been earthquakes (Ischia) and a family of 3 swallowed up by a collapsing crater. (Solfatara) Despite the fact they ignored the fences and keep out signs I still feel very sorry for them. You might have to have a plan 'b' and a residence on Capri if the super volcano continues to become more active!
"The Campi Flegrei caldera was formed 39,000 years ago in a blast that threw hundreds of cubic kilometres of lava, rock and debris into the air. 200 km3 ie a VEI level 7. The highest is 8. Vesuvius in 79ad was a VEI 5 with 'only' 3.3 cubic metres ejected. A baby against that 200 km3!
It was the largest eruption in Europe in the past 200,000 years, according to scientists." Tfs!

Ciao Lisa,
Amicalement

Hello, Lisa!
The light was perfectly managed in this beautiful capture of the city at the blue hour, which gives wonderful colors to the scene! The high POV is great to show it, and the lightning in the background is a great detail! Wonderful composition! Very good job!

Hello Lisa, a lovely scene with the lightning an added bonus!
The fading light still allows us to see the town and the yellow lights are particularly eye catching.
The high point of view works really well.
Your dreams if you win the lottery sound very inviting!
Regards Jean.

Hi Lisa,
Beautiful blue hour view where golden toned lights look wonderful. The lightning is just an extra detail on theis case but of course a welcome one. I think I would like to see a bit more of the boat harbour.

Hello Lisa,
Wow, this is a really spectacular photo, amazing that you got this lightning bolt crashing into the sea in the background. The town in the foreground looks so peaceful, a lovely, quiet night with so many lovely small houses illuminated beautifully with such great golden hues. Excellent photo work, superb sharpness too.

Carissima Lisa,
It is indeed lovely to be back here on TE and it's even lovelier when I am greeted by a stunning photograph taken by yourself!
I'm sure that you will agree that catching that lightning strike was down to sheer serendipity, good luck or, perhaps, the grace of God. However, there was no luck involved in capturing this stunning photograph with such finely balanced composition, such beautiful lighting and colours, perfect exposure and impeccable details and sharpness - that was purely as a result of experience, skill, determination and good ol' blood, sweat and tears.
A photograph that I should have loved to have taken and one of which you must be justifiably proud. And a note, in your inimitable style, delightfully combining history, geology, volcanology, gastronomy as well as your dreams for the future. I hope they come true! :)
Fabulous!
Un abbraccio,
Giovanni. xx

Ciao cara Lisa,
Are you in Europe again? It is a new picture. I made a day trip from Pozzuoli to Procida, so I haven't seen the island in this marvelous evening light, but I remember this view very well. Interesting to see this lightning strike, perfect timing!. Fabulous picture.

Hi Lisa
It makes me feel warm just looking at this blue hour shot with glittering light, colours & atmosphere! and talk about being in the right place at the right time!; an excellent bang on shot and what a highly impressive lightning bolt lit up the horizon which is superbly blended to hold the eye together. Your lighting control is second to none that nothing appears to be under or over-exposed revealing all that lovely detail of this charming coastal town. In fact
there's so much to look at from this shooting point. Remarkable lens work, Congrats and tfs
Best regards

Hello Lisa,
The warm, golden lighting in this scene is so mesmerizing that I almost don't notice the lightning off to the side. Once I do see it though, I realize that you captured this lightning strike perfectly. The town looks so calm and clear, and yet a storm is raging not too far away. It's a beautiful view. :-)

Hello Lisa,
Can you believe I've ever passed this island on my way to Ischia and I didn't go off the boat on Procida ?
Since then I've often regretted it, especially when I see photos like this one.
The yellow illumination adds a lot to the charm of the picture.
From your high point of view you've captured this labyrinth-like village very attractively with the sea at both sides.
A very moody picture.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Lisa,
What a great effect given by this lit-up quarter by the sea, under the fires of lightning ! You were lucky indeed to catch the lightning blade going right into the sea !
What strikes me is the calmness of the sea in the storm.
Congratulations for this beautiful shot !
Kind regards.
Marie-Louise.
