Photographer's Note
One of the reasons why I wanted to visit Trieste is that the city is home to some of my literary heroes.
---
Aron Ettore Schmitz (19 December 1861 – 13 September 1928), better known by the pseudonym Italo Svevo, was an Italian writer, businessman, novelist, playwright, and short story writer.
Svevo is considered to be a pioneer of the psychological novel and is best known for La Coscienza di Zeno (1923), which is often translated as Confessions of Zeno.
When Italo Svevo was born in Trieste, it was still in Austrian Empire. His father was a Jewish German, his mother Italian. He himself spoke Italian as a second language, the Triestine dialect being his native language.
Svevo was a close friend of James Joyce, who used him as a template for Leopold Bloom in Ulysses.
These days people use their mobile phones for confessions.

Hello Benny,
Excellent, witty composition. The couple and the statue creates a really good counter-point to each other.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Dag Benny

Heel mooi foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,

Hi Benny,
I hope all is well :) Long time since I have been here, I recently visited Tokyo and the legendary Francis Harrison (furachan) and it got me thinking to visit TE.
I like the contrast here of old and new means of literature, I know the latter method is convenient but the old way is more rewarding :)
Cheers,
Justin

Hi Benny,
I wanted to copy your comment to my photo and say something similar for example that the fact that this guy is your literary hero will clearly make him very interesting to me as well, but this doesn't sound very convincing...
Very well captured contrast of the old generation and young one. Old with the book, while new with the phone. Sadly I have no time to read at all and I don't own a smartphone. I wonder where does it place me...
Great street scene,
M
