Right transept and Lippi Monument - Spoleto Cathedral
In the right arm of the cross, on the right wall, there is the funeral monument of Giovanni Francesco Orsini, badly reassembled and mutilated in subsequent transfers, the work of Ambrogio da Milano (1499); at the altar, Madonna with Child and Saints Francesco, Antonio and Dorotea by Annibale Carracci; on the left wall, the tomb of Fra 'Filippo Lippi (the body is no longer there), built by order and at the expense of Lorenzo the Magnificent by Florentine artists, based on a design by Filippino Lippi. The epigraph was dictated by Poliziano. In the seventeenth-century reconstruction the monument was placed in the corridor of the chapel of the Sacrament and it was then perhaps that the body was lost.
