Another little Venice, a photo from Livorno, Tuscany

Photographer's Note

Back to Livorno after my foggy photos, with a nice view of one of the historic canals of the city. The canals built by the Grand Dukes of Tuscany are characterized by a history and an architectural system that make them a unique example.
The ditches were dug in 28 years starting from 1577, as a formidable defense to protect the nascent Livorno, "The key to our state", as the first Grand Dukes of the Medici family loved to repeat. The characteristic name of Fossi, with which they have always been called, derives from the fact that they were born as large military ditches to isolate the city and its fortresses.

Ritorno a Livorno dopo le mie foto nebbiose, con una bella vista di uno dei canali storici della città. I canali voluti dai Granduchi di Toscana sono caratterizzati da una storia e da un sistema architettonico che li rendono un esempio unico.
I fossi furono scavati in 28 anni a partire dal 1577, come formidabile difesa per proteggere la nascente Livorno, “La chiave del nostro stato”, come amavano ripetere i primi granduchi della Famiglia de’ Medici. Il caratteristico nome di Fossi, con cui sono da sempre chiamati, deriva proprio dal fatto che sono nati come grandi fossati militari per isolare la città e le sue fortezze.

Hi Luciano
I've only been to inland areas of Tuscany. This photos suggests that I should have gone to the coast as well. A great photo of the row of buildings and their reflections in the canal.

Ciao Luciano, a Livorno ci son due cose che fanno consumare schede fotografiche come se fossero noccioline, la prima è la terrazza Mascagni, subito a ruota i tanti magnifici riflessi che si catturano nei suoi canali. Gran bella questa prospettiva sulla palazzata, il riflesso col leggero tremolio è una chicca, splendida luce, ottima nitidezza e favolosi colori, bravo, ciao Silvio

Ciao Luciano, another bewonderful picture from Livorno. Charming houses, beautifully reflected in the canal. Interesting boat "houses". I haven't seen similar ones.

Hello Luciano,
This reminds me more of Pisa, as we have seen that city in Carlo's photos, than of Venice. But Livorno seems to have qualities of its own. And in any case the colours and reflections create a stunning view, where I appreciate that one boat is coming towards us with a load of people who look like they are planning a day on the beach. ;-)

Ciao Luciano,
you had a fantastic light there and it certainly helped to get out the best out of this place. The sky reflected in the water adds a nice blue touch and it goes so well with the yellow or orange facades.
The reflection makes such an important part of the composition here of course. The houses are nicely aligned in a similar style and there seem to be boats parked there as if the people were just parking them outs ide of house as they usually do with cars.

The inner lagoon offers wonderful points for photography, Luciano, as mentioned on one of the preceding posts you shown from this location.

I liked the colors and the reflections in this beautiful image with calm waters and peaceful mood. here in brazil I guess the nearest appearance of venice is in recife, that was created by the dutch, other people who love swampy areas.

Hello Luciano,
A very nice view of this row of houses along the water and also a row of boats. The sunlight was perfect and saturated the colours so well, but of course the reflections really steal the show.

Hello Luciano,
After your pictures in the fog we get a splash of colours and sunshine from Livorno.
The sky and the colours of the facades are beautifully reflected in the water.
Behind the boats there's a remarkable long row of doors. Presumably from storage rooms close to the waterfront.

Another beautiful view of this city, with that homogeneity in its colored facades and its beautiful reflections in the canal, the line of motor canoes along the pier adds charm to the composition.
Good perspective of the image, very pleasing to the eye.
