Church of Santa Maria di Pietrarossa - Trevi
Among the most famous monuments of the Trevano is undoubtedly the Church of Santa Maria di Pietrarossa.
The name of the church and of the locality is given by a red stone which is now embedded in the second pillar, to the right of whoever enters the church. A very ancient tradition, perhaps dating back to paganism, attributed thaumaturgical powers in the treatment of infertility. The church was built over the remains of an ancient Roman building, perhaps a temple or perhaps ancient baths built near the river Clitunno.
The building retains the original strongly asymmetrical structure, with a rather irregular pattern, in which no measure exactly matches the parallel one, as is often the case in medieval rural churches.
A portico with a wooden roof and tiles surrounds the church on three sides, the interior has a basilica plan with three naves, divided by irregularly shaped pillars, three in the left aisle and four in the right, which support lowered arches, of which the left center is very broad.
Characteristic of the church is the presence of an incredible number of ex voto frescoes, largely depicting the Madonna and Child, there are at least ninety, I propose some of the most significant, not all, of course. This is the work of an anonymous Umbrian conventionally called the Second Master of Pietrarossa. In the WS outside and inside the church.

Hello Silvio,
It's a fine painting, although it is one of those where the baby Christ looks like a small adult. The WS are both perhaps a bit more interesting as your own compositions. Especially the interior is fascinating.

Hi Silvio,
A good tightly framed shot of this fresco. Signs of times show clearly but colours look fairly bright. The child looks more like a scaled down adult, I think.

Hello Silvio, I think that a lot of artists have difficulty painting the faces of babies, this baby looks older than he should.
Mary's face is beautiful.
There are some interesting patterns, they look like prints.
Although there is some damage, it is still a beautiful piece.
